We've stopped treating the kitchen as a room to visit and started treating it as the room everything else orbits.
On paper, a kitchen is one room among many. In practice, in almost every home we've worked on, it's the room the household actually lives in — the place conversations happen, homework gets done, and guests end up standing even when there's a living room five steps away.
Once we accept that, the planning changes. Sightlines from the kitchen to the rest of the home start to matter more than sightlines from the living room. Storage gets prioritized there before anywhere else. The finishes have to hold up to daily use, not just look good in a render.
It's a small shift in emphasis, but it changes which decisions get made first — and first decisions tend to shape everything that follows.
